“As County Executive, it is vitally important to me that we identify and support the places that make our county strong and connected. Please join us as we celebrate the power of social infrastructures, and how they can shape our future through education, information, and access.”
It is my pleasure to serve once again as the honorary chair of the One Community Reads program. The inaugural One Community Reads event sparked inspiring and impactful conversations throughout our county about the toll of eviction and its impact on the cycle of poverty.
I am sure this year’s title will inspire as well. Eric Klinenberg’s book, “Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life,” addresses the social benefits of public institutions such as libraries, schools, and parks in our country. Based on the social beliefs of the prominent businessperson and philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, Palaces for the People hopes to inspire readers to continue to invest in third-spaces and infrastructures that unite our neighborhoods and build resilient communities.
As County Executive, it is vitally important to me that we support, identify and keep strong the places that make our county strong and connected.
Please join us as we celebrate the power of social infrastructures, and how they can shape our future through education, information, and access.
Check out Palaces for the People from your local library branch and join in on the conversation by attending programs, film screenings, and the keynote event with author Eric Klinenberg.
Thank you again to all of our sponsors, including all nine local public library systems, The City Club of Cleveland and Playhouse Square. Through your efforts, Cuyahoga County continues to thrive and challenge people to embrace lifelong learning and intellectual freedom.
